It is finally finished, clothes are all washed, pictures are hung, Moses basket is here and the room is tidy!
It’s not a very big room but it will do, baby will mostly be in my bedroom for the first few months anyway so it’s not like he will need a ton of space. We did it fairly neutral although I have sort of gone with a bit of an animal theme, I like animals and baby’s like animals so why not, also that way I get to add colours to the room subtly without making the room look smaller by using bright colours on the walls!
Here are some pics!
His cot is mine from when I was a baby and has just been repainted and had a new mattress bought for it, the pictures on the wall my mom made for us and the colourful door knobs I painted myself, so a lot of effort and love has gone into it and I think it looks pretty damn good!!
Anyone else decorated their nursery with mostly handmade/hand me down items?
38 Weeks! I honestly never envisioned going past 37 but here we are and with no signs of him showing his face anytime soon either, I guess he’s all warm and cosy in there!
I had a midwife appointment on the 25th, it was just your usual run of the mill appointment, nothing eventful happened, she took my blood pressure, checked my pee sample, felt for baby and listened to his heartbeat, everything is perfect so all is good on that front, he is also now 3/5ths engaged, which really doesn’t mean all that much cause he was the same 4 weeks ago and then decided to move out of my pelvis, which is annoying but ah well, the braxton hicks contractions have now all but stopped too so I am pretty positive this is going to be a long wait!
He is just as wriggly as ever which is wonderful, I really am going to miss feeling his little kicks inside of me when he’s finally here, but, I am so excited to meet him!
According to Ovia this week he is the same size as a Ukulele, weighs roughly 7lbs and is about 19 and a half inches long! lets hope he doesn’t get too much bigger than that! also apparently if he has hair it has a colour by now and his eye colour is also coming in! although I am thinking he will have lovely blue eyes because both me and Arran have blue eyes, I do hope he has lots of dark hair though, but thats not something you see very often, dark hair and blue eyes, but who knows we shall see, I’m sure he will look utterly adorable whatever he looks like!
Arran starts his paternity leave this week! I can’t wait, its going to be so nice to have him around for a whole 3 weeks, we just gotta hope that baby decides to show up in good time so that Arran gets to spend as much time with him as possible!
Here we go into 39 weeks! I might start taking bets on when he will arrive, feel free to leave your guess in the comments!
P.s. my appetite is out of control… please tell me this is a sign!
We still haven’t picked a name… Infact our shortlist is not even short and keeps changing!
How? How do people pick names? It is such a huge decision and so hard knowing we have to pick something good and that it will be with him for the rest of his life!!
What if he doesn’t like it? what then!
I do know we don’t want to give him one of these trendy names that will date and sound silly when he’s 60 or when he’s working in a professional setting, we are definitely going to give him something traditional, but also not too old fashioned, though we do like some of the old fashioned names like Arthur, but we aren’t naming him Arthur.
We have at most 3 weeks til we meet him, I just hope that when we finally have him here with us we will be able to look at him and say he looks like a “insert name here” and all will be good!
Hopefully also people will stop asking us what we are going to name him soon, cause
1. we don’t know
2. even if we did we aren’t telling anyone because everyone has an opinion on every name and no doubt someones opinion would taint it for us!
So I have been meaning to do this post since December last year… I’m terrible I know, but anyway, I got a new Warhammer army for Christmas!
Let me introduce you to the Ironjawz! An awesome, badass army of Orruks,!
They are currently built and sprayed in my parents conservatory and I started painting them on Sunday, I’m doing the classic yellow armour with bits of red thrown in on some of the little details, Arran has done the spraying for me, I decided on white as the undercoat as I think it will help bring out the yellow much better than if we sprayed them in black, so far its working!
Here is a pic of them all sprayed and ready to paint!
We have also already had a few battles with them, against Skaven and Dwarves, so far they have kicked ass and won all but one fight, it’s great! I’m not used to winning this much, however Arran has now bought a new army, the Kharadron Overlords, heres hoping that the Ironjawz can still hold their own against them!
These guys are also so much different to my Dark Elf army, I’m loving them, I have so much more motivation to paint them, I think it’s because they are so different and much more colourful, don’t get me wrong I still love my Dark Elves, I just needed a bit of a break from them as I was lacking the motivation to paint them!
So yes! watch this space, these Ironjawz are going to look awesome when they are finished and lets hope they can keep up their winning streak and destroy their new opponents!!
So we finally made it, 37 weeks! I am officially classed as full term now and baby could come any day! Super excited doesn’t even come close to how I feel right now!
Last week I had my 36 week midwife appointment, everything is looking good, however, he had decided to move up out of my pelvis a bit instead of going further in, which was a little disappointing but ah well such is life right, can’t rush these things, he will come when he is good and ready! My next appointment will be tomorrow at 38 weeks, so fingers crossed for a bit of downward movement!!
According to my app Ovia, baby is the size of a tackle box at 37 weeks, weighs just over 6lbs and is about 19 inches tall! All of his organs are fully formed and he is totally ready to come into this world and meet us, hurry up dude!
I finally finished his bedroom this week and his new moses basket arrived as well, I will do a separate post with some pics of the nursery and his moses basket all set up, we also finished washing all of his clothes… he has so many clothes it is insane! ooh and I also finished packing his hospital bag and made a start on packing my own, though most of the stuff going into my bag is stuff that I am still using so will have to all be put in last minute!
Definitely starting to feel a lot more tired now, sleep hasn’t been easy, I tend to wake up loads of times in the night and then once I wake up it takes about an hour or so to get back to sleep, but it will all be worth it, I am definitely looking forward to being able to sleep somewhat normally again once he is here, the things you don’t appreciate like sleeping on your back instead of your side all the time are the things you miss the most I think, so I am really looking forward to being able to do that again and just generally have my body back!
Ooh, I almost forgot, we had a breastfeeding class on the 13th, it was pretty interesting, though the jury is still out on whether I will breast feed or formula, I think I will give it a try for sure for at least a week but my heart is not set on it being the only way I feed him, if I end up bottle feeding I won’t be disappointed, fed is best after all and as long as he is happy it doesn’t matter.
So yeah, I think that is all I have for this weeks update, I am thinking of doing weekly updates now until he arrives, so I guess my next one will be next Sunday/Monday for 38 weeks!
So I am a week later than intended with this update but nevermind, things have been super busy recently, me and Arran moved home and have had a ton of packing and unpacking to do but we’re almost done, thankfully… I hate moving house, it’s so stressful but needs must right!
Anyway, my last update was at 32 weeks, things have been pretty boring really, not much has changed, braxton hicks have ramped up a little and are starting to get more painful, baby is now engaged which is exciting! but also painful sometimes, pretty sure he is using his head as a drill and trying to grind his way out of my pelvis…. not nice!!
We did have a birth class last Thursday, it was quite informative, they went through all the possible scenarios that could happen during labour/delivery, we did a few quizzes and they taught the dads some massage techniques, which was really nice!
I also learnt why I am in so much pain all the time when I’m walking etc. turns out my pelvis has separated a little too much and apparently that is super painful, the best way to deal with it according to my midwife is to tie something tightly around my hips because then it will push it all back together! so yeah it’s all good times over here, but, I’m still enjoying feeling my little dude moving around, even if he is hurting me a little!
The closer we get to his due date now though the more excited I am, I’m like wishing it along faster, I want to know how much hair he will have, what colour his hair will be, what his little face will look like! ah man I’m just super excited for him to be here!
I have another midwife appointment today which will be my 36 week appointment, I wasn’t supposed to have another now til 37 weeks but unfortunately today was the only day my midwife was available, I have also changed midwives, which is a little sad I really liked my midwife in Burton she was lovely, oh yes I almost forgot to mention at my last appointment with her I almost fainted… I have no idea why, I am going to blame it being super warm that day, but she did also take some of my blood too and I am not good with that sort of thing so it could have also been that… but anyway, I am sure my new midwife will be just as lovely!
So according to the app on my phone baby is now the size of a kids backpack this week(35), he weighs between 5 & 6lb and is roughly 19inches long! he is focusing on putting on lots of baby fat ready for when he is born because now all of his major development is complete and he is most definitely running out of space in there!
So it’ll have been 3 weeks tomorrow since my baby shower 😱 I definitely planned on writing this post a lot sooner than now but I have been super busy with baby stuff!
Anyway, my baby shower! It was a great day, if not a little overwhelming but I still had a ton of fun and am very thankful to all of my family and friends who came to celebrate with me! Baby boy got lots of lovely pressies, more clothes than he will ever need and I even got a couple of presents too! Which I wasn’t expecting 😛
My baby shower was at my parents house as it is a lot bigger than my flat, my mom organised it and my sister and Arran’s mom bought the decorations. It was such a good day, my mom organised some quizzes and a few other games like pin the dummy on the baby and we had a guess how many jelly babies are in the jar too, definitely one of the most fun days I’ve had in a long time! However, I’m not one for being the centre of attention so it was rather overwhelming for me too, having everyone watching me opening presents and just having everyone there to celebrate me and the baby was crazy, I definitely slept well that night cause I was just physically and mentally exhausted!! Still a ton of fun and for anyone who’s thinking of having one I would definitely recommend it, its a great way to get all of your family together!
We had about 25 guests but I didn’t take many pics during the day cause I was just so busy and distracted but here are a few 😊
And some pics of the lovely gifts we received!
So yeah overall it was an awesome day! and now I only have just over 5 weeks to go til my due date!!!
It’s official, we are moving house, again, for the 2nd time in a year, but hey needs must right, where we currently live is not big enough for us and a baby, it’s also not in the greatest of areas to be honest, It’s Ok for just the two of us but I wouldn’t want to bring a kid up around here really.
So yeah, we are officially moving home on the 8th of April, we plan to live with my parents for a while so that we can save up some money and afford something bigger and in a nicer area, also we will have the support of all of my family around us to help out with the baby as and when we need it, which lets face it, we will need it at some point!
I gave our landlord our months notice on the 14th of March, so now we gotta get packing, there is so much to do now before baby makes his appearance, here is my To Do list for the next 5-10 weeks:
Wash all of the baby clothes
Steralise bottles & dummies
Put together a Chest of Drawers
Put away baby clothes in size order
Buy any last minute things we still need
Pick baby’s coming home outfit
Pack baby’s hospital bag
Pack my hospital bag
Get my nails done
Most of this I won’t be able to do though until we move back in April, by then I will have 1-5 weeks to get it all done… that is not scary at all… that is also a lie, oh jeez!!
Since my last update (28 Weeks) not much has changed really, I had a blood test on the 15.02.17 which was just an ordinary midwife appointment for me with the added blood test, this was to test my immunities and to see if I am anemic, that was just over two weeks ago and my midwife told me no news is good news, I haven’t heard from her so I’m assuming all is good on that front! I did have the most awesome bruise though from said blood test, I don’t usually bruise but for some reason this time I did…
The picture doesn’t really do it justice, it was much better in person…
…That makes me sound like some kind of weirdo that gets a kick out of injuries… I assure you I don’t but, I can appreciate a good bruise from time to time…
Other than this really the last two weeks has been pretty easy, I’m suffering with extreme tiredness again which seems to have returned from the first trimester but that is to be expected, I’m growing an entire human inside of me so yeah that is going to be pretty damn tiring, I just tend to have nice long lie ins after Arran gets up and goes to work!
Next weekend (the 11th) is my Baby Shower! I am pretty excited about it but also kinda anxious too, I’m not the kinda person who likes to be the centre of attention, which is what a baby shower is all about really, I probably would have been better off waiting til little dude was here and then having a party for him, that way then everyone can fuss over him and I can just watch from the sidelines, but ah well, I can do both right!
Some things I have been stressing over this past two weeks:
Finishing the nursery
Finding a newborn photographer (this one the most)
What I will need to pack for the hospital for me
What I will need to pack for the hospital for him
Giving birth unexpectedly in the car on the way to the hospital… (don’t ask why)
Him in general (this goes without saying, I constantly worry if he’s Ok in there, if he’s moving enough etc.)
So yeah, that is my life at the minute! Oh also the heartburn is real! I’ve cut out fizzy pop and spicy food and anything that I know gives me heartburn but my god, I still get it, it is not nice! although I find drinking milk has really helped when I do get it!
Here is an update pic of my bump progress!
If I remember rightly the left pic I took at 16 weeks, top right 19 weeks, middle right 26 weeks and bottom right at 30 weeks! I don’t feel like there has been much change between 26 and 30 weeks though…
Other than the stress, heartburn and tiredness I am enjoying being pregnant, however I am ready and super excited for him to get here! I now have between 7 and 12 weeks til I get to meet him… It’s gone SO fast! I feel like it was only yesterday that we were at the first scan looking at him, trying to guess whether he was gunna be a boy or a girl! though I suppose I will be looking back in 5 years time going “It feels like only yesterday that I was giving birth to him!”
So yeah, that is my latest update, my next one will be at 32 weeks when I will talk about all the fun stuff from the baby shower and share some pics!
If anyone has any suggestions on how to cope with heartburn, I would love to hear them!
So as my second trimester draws to a close I am finally on the home stretch! I am so excited, I have enjoyed being pregnant mostly but I can’t wait to finally meet our little dude! I have been imagining what he might look like and what his personality might be and I am just so ready to finally meet him!
Right now though I’m going to write down how I’ve felt over these last two trimesters, I should probably have done it sooner when it was all clearer in my mind but hey ho I feel like I can remember it pretty well…
Trimester 1, I missed a fair few weeks of this trimester cause I had no idea I was pregnant! I got a positive test on the 20th of September last year, which really doesn’t seem that far away! That would have made me 7 +1 weeks pregnant, some people are lucky/unlucky (depending on how you look at it) and find out at like 1/2 weeks, I couldn’t handle that I’m too impatient, waiting til 12 weeks would have felt like a millennia! Anyway, the thing that was hardest for me during this trimester was the food aversions and constant nausea, literally everything I ate made me feel sick and when I wasn’t feeling sick I was constantly exhausted and had no appetite, so it wasn’t great but I muddled through on toast and really bland food! I started feeling baby move around 14 weeks which I understand is pretty early so I feel very lucky, it’s amazing how much reassurance it brings 😁 My 12 week scan was great, baby was upside down and full of life, it’s awesome seeing them for the first time, knowing that’s your baby and you’re going to meet them! Creating life is incredible to me, I just go about my life while he grows away inside me!
Other than this my first trimester was pretty uneventful thankfully, the nausea slowly went away and towards the second trimester I started to feel much better which was a welcome relief!!
Trimester 2, this one has been pretty smooth sailing, in fact so much so I feel quite lucky! Pregnancy has been kind to me… so far! Still all of my morning sickness disappeared at the start of this trimester which was wonderful! All of my midwife appointments have gone great, baby is doing wonderfully, I’ve felt him lots more during this trimester, he likes to sit really low and kick my cervix 😝 which can be pretty painful sometimes! We did have a bit of a scare though towards the end of Jan, I spent my birthday in hospital due to stomach pains, had to get 2 steroid shots in my bum as they were worried I may be going into early labour, I didn’t fortunately, I was 25 weeks when that happened I think I handled it quite well, though I wasn’t keen on staying in hospital but it was for the best. I had my whooping cough injection last week, I hate injections, but it was alright, the worst thing was it made my arm feel bruised for about 3 days after! But I think that was the last of my injections for this pregnancy… maybe! The best thing by far about this trimester though was feeling him move all the time, I love it, both in the reassuring sense and because it’s a constant reminder that I’m going to be a mommy!
And so today I am 28 weeks, officially in the third trimester guys! 12 weeks to go, I am excited and nervous all at the same time, we have so much to do and so much to look forward to!
Coming up this trimester I have a wonderful blood test! At least one that I am aware of, looking forward to that… not! I also have my baby shower in March which I am super excited for and by then I’ll only have 8 weeks left to go! Exciting times ahead!
A bump pic! Taken at 16 weeks, 19 weeks & 26 weeks!
